Oklahoma’s amended gambling statute, Senate Bill 1589, took effect on 1 November 2026. The law broadens the wording of an existing offence so that it covers not only people who operate gambling activity but also those who provide support for it.
Who may be affected
The revised provision expressly reaches a wider group of participants, including geolocation providers, gaming suppliers, platform providers, promoters and media affiliates. The legislation does not rely solely on the word “sweepstakes”; instead, it broadens the definition of representative value to include currency used in dual-currency systems where it can be exchanged for money, prizes or a chance to win.
The offence is classified as a Class C2 felony, with penalties that can include fines and imprisonment of up to seven years. The statute includes exceptions for qualifying charitable gaming and tribal gaming on Indian lands.
Why this matters to affiliate businesses
Affiliate publishers and service providers should review whether their activities, clients and promotional arrangements touch dual-currency sweepstakes products available to Oklahoma residents. The legislation is a state-specific development and should not be treated as a nationwide rule, but it demonstrates the importance of checking the legal exposure of marketing and technology partners in each jurisdiction.
