The Nevis Online Gaming Authority has introduced a dedicated Prediction Market Licence, creating a regulatory category separate from its existing online gaming licences. The framework was launched on 30 October 2026 and is designed for event-based market operators and technology providers.
Scope of the new framework
The licence covers prediction markets linked to sports, financial and economic indicators, political and electoral events, entertainment, weather, climate, cryptocurrencies and digital assets. It recognises different market structures, including binary and multi-outcome contracts, pari-mutuel models and market-maker arrangements, subject to regulatory approval.
Applicants will be assessed individually. The authority says the framework addresses due diligence, financial transparency, anti-money laundering, customer protection, market manipulation, conflicts of interest, event resolution and safeguards for participant funds.
Industry significance
The move adds another jurisdiction-specific framework to a sector where regulators continue to debate how event contracts should be classified. Operators and suppliers considering Nevis should review the detailed licence conditions rather than assume that a prediction market can be authorised under a conventional casino or sportsbook licence.
