Holland Casino has commenced construction of its new Groningen casino, with a groundbreaking ceremony attended by employees, construction partners and representatives of the municipality of Tynaarlo.
The new property, located at Businesspark Ter Borch alongside the A7 motorway, will provide a permanent replacement for the casino destroyed by fire in 2017. The development has been designed with an emphasis on sustainability, accessibility and modern gaming facilities.
Petra de Ruiter, CEO of Holland Casino, commented: “Today, together, we are taking an important step towards the future of Holland Casino Groningen. Here, we are not only building a new building, but also a place where guests feel welcome and where our employees can work with pride. After years of preparation, it is special to see that the plans are now actually becoming a reality.”
Marcel Thijsen, Mayor of Tynaarlo, attended the ceremony and highlighted the development’s contribution to Businesspark Ter Borch and the wider regional economy.
The official groundbreaking was performed by De Ruiter, Mayor Thijsen and long-serving Holland Casino employee Richard van den Broek, who welcomed the progress after years of planning.
“I am relieved that it is finally starting and can’t wait to walk in here,” said Van den Broek.
The new casino will strengthen Holland Casino’s presence in the northern Netherlands, with the operator positioning the development as a long-term investment in its regional operations.
