7bet announces prediction-market launch in Latvia and Lithuania

7bet says it will introduce event contracts in Latvia and Lithuania using Altenar technology, although the regulatory treatment of prediction markets remains unsettled in both countries.

Vilnius-based operator 7bet has announced plans to launch a prediction-markets product in Latvia and Lithuania. The proposed contracts will cover events including elections, politics, weather, celebrity news and other local and international developments.

The product is built on technology supplied by Altenar, which entered the prediction-markets segment earlier in 2026. 7bet holds gambling licences in Lithuania, Latvia and the United Kingdom, but that does not by itself settle whether every event contract in the new product falls within the scope of its existing permissions.

Regulatory treatment differs by market

SBC News reports that Lithuania treats prediction markets as a gambling product, meaning an operator needs the relevant licence. Latvia’s rules distinguish between financial and non-financial event contracts, with a gambling licence required for non-financial events such as political elections, sports outcomes and pop-culture events.

The exact regulatory classification of 7bet’s offer was not clear at publication, and the outlet said it had contacted both regulators for comment. The launch illustrates how sportsbook suppliers are extending into event-based products while local authorities are still defining the boundaries between prediction markets and gambling.
