Honoré Gaming sees room for optional jackpot side bets in African sportsbooks

Honoré Gaming’s Tangi Daniel says optional jackpot side bets could help African sportsbooks differentiate beyond odds, provided pricing, rules and technology are localised.

Tangi Daniel, Head of Casino at Honoré Gaming, sees an opportunity for optional jackpot side bets to give African sportsbooks another way to differentiate their products. In an interview with iGaming AFRIKA, he said the appeal of “bet small, win big” propositions and the popularity of lottery products point to potential demand in several markets.

Daniel argued that limited adoption is not necessarily evidence of weak player interest. He pointed instead to access to suitable technology, integration challenges and the need to explain the product clearly. Players should understand the additional contribution, the jackpot mechanics and the prize before opting in; the original betslip and its odds should remain unchanged.

Localisation is central

He also sees opportunities to add optional jackpots to existing slots, live casino and crash games, including structures that combine frequent smaller prizes with a larger headline prize or shared community payouts.

For operators, the commercial case is product differentiation rather than simply adding another promotion. Daniel stressed that contribution levels, payments, content and the user experience need to fit local conditions, including low-data environments. His comments are industry perspective from a supplier executive, not evidence of measured market-wide demand.
