Colombia’s online sports betting sector recorded an 84.24 per cent increase in revenue during the first eight months of 2026, supported by betting activity surrounding the FIFA World Cup. According to figures supplied by national gambling regulator Coljuegos, collections between January and August reached COP 977.22bn (approximately US$301m), representing a 39.38 per cent increase compared with the corresponding period in 2025.

Online sports betting contributed COP 473.02bn (US$146m), accounting for almost half of the total collected for transfer to Colombia’s subsidised healthcare system. The figures underline the growing contribution of online gambling to Colombia’s regulated gaming sector, which has operated under a dedicated licensing framework since 2016.

Colombia also ranks 22nd globally for online gambling participation, according to DataReportal figures based on GWI research from the second quarter of 2025. The research found that 13.8 per cent of Colombian internet users aged 16 and over participated in online gambling, placing the country third in South America behind Brazil, at 19 per cent, and Chile, at 16.6 per cent. The figures measure participation among internet users rather than the population as a whole.

Colombia’s online gambling market remains concentrated among a small number of operators. BetPlay, operated by Corredor Empresarial en Línea, is estimated to control approximately 51 per cent of the market, followed by Wplay with around 14 per cent.

Rushbet and Codere complete the four largest operators, which together account for an estimated 87.8 per cent of the sector. BetPlay, the principal sponsor of Colombia’s professional football league since 2019, reportedly processes more than four million bets daily and has approximately 1.5 million active players.

The country’s online betting market is estimated to generate between COP 34.5 trillion and COP 45 trillion annually in total betting stakes, with more than 10.8 million active registered accounts. Since 2022, Colombia’s gambling industry has transferred approximately COP 7.2 trillion to the subsidised healthcare system, including COP 1.76 trillion attributed to the digital sector.

A further COP 1.3 trillion has reportedly been collected through VAT and allocated to peace programmes in regions affected by Colombia’s armed conflict. Despite its established regulatory framework, Colombia’s online gambling sector continues to face scrutiny over taxation, financial controls and money laundering risks. The latest figures nevertheless demonstrate the increasing importance of digital betting to the country’s gaming tax revenues and public financing.
